This is without doubt our most popular guided trip – designed to be appreciated by both experienced paddlers and beginners alike, with the emphasis on fun and enjoyment – not hard work.
Departing from our base at Shute Harbour, we kayak over fringing coral reefs and explore nearby tropical islands.
These turquoise waters and islands are home to an amazing diversity of marine and bird life including giant sea turtles and soaring eagles. Between the months of July and September, there is also a chance to encounter the magnificent humpback whales which arrive to give birth to their calves before returning to Antarctic waters.
We stop off at White Rock or Cane Cockie’s Beach, where there is time to swim, (mask, snorkel & stinger suit provided free of charge) or kick back and relax. We provide cold drinks accompanied by a cheese and a fruit platter, allowing you to refresh before our return to Shute Harbour.

Aiden & Brady were our guides, and even though the weather was less than cooperative and we couldn’t snorkel, we still had a great time. They were very knowledgeable about the area & wildlife. Huge thanks to Aiden for paddling back to one of the islands after my husband realized his Rayban sunglasses were missing. (Husband was collecting some stray trash on the island and his sunglasses must have fallen off the neck of his shirt. No good deed goes unpunished 😅) anyways, Aiden could have said tough luck but instead he was super cool about it. We found the sunglasses and had a great chat with him while we caught up to the rest of the group. Thanks for the great experience guys!
We went out on a half day trip from Shute Harbour today as part of our P&O cruise. We went out past Shute Island and back. Myself and my partner are not avid kayakers and were a tad apprehensive but the two guides were absolutely wonderful. We felt very safe in their hands, the equipment provided to us was top notch and easy to understand, and the little demonstration at the start ensured my partner and I didn’t end up divorced by the end of the day due to the kayak controls. The added bonus of information about the local ecosystems, and how it all connects was the icing on the cake!
Such a fantastic experience, a must-do for anyone visiting Airlie Beach. Hailey and Neil were fantastic hosts and tour guides. Thank you!
My wife and two young children had a brilliant time, so much so we’re hooked on sea kayaking now.
